You’ve probably heard the term “grace”, or “God’s grace”, thrown around a lot, especially among Christians. But do you know what it means?
According to the dictionary, grace is goodwill or favor. And according to the Bible, this goodwill or favor with God is a gift. That is, you cannot earn it. Ephesians 2:8-9 says:
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Therefore, God’s grace is available to you for free. You don’t gain favor with him by doing any number of good deeds or following certain rituals or traditions. No, all you have to do is have faith in who he says he is and accept his gift of salvation.
No one deserves this gift, it’s simply given to us, because of God’s love. Because of his grace.
