Pursuing Truth in God’s Word
We live within a world system that is based on deception. We are bombarded by media to embrace false values. We are manipulated by people to fulfill desires and passions in ways that will lead to destruction. We are targeted by the devil with schemes of deceit designed to enslave us. Daily we are surrounded by lies, scams and distorted truth.
That is the world within which we live — the environment within which we make choices. Choices that will become the building blocks of our future. Choices that will either help us experience God’s wonderful plan for life, or choices that will lead to disappointment, loss, and hopelessness.
As we make daily decisions, we assume our choices are based on fact and reality. However that is often not the case.
We arrive at faulty conclusions because we don’t know what we don’t know. But with the passing of time, the future will reveal the wisdom of our reasoning.
Deceptions are exposed and truth prevails. Then, if we’ve chosen wrong, we live with the consequences.
The apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened,…” (Ephesians 1:18, NIV) God wants us to have an “enlightened” heart so that we can enjoy all that He has planned for us. But it requires discernment so we make right choices — choices based on truth, not deception.
But what is the truth? How can we separate fact from fiction? Who can we believe?
God wants truth to be the foundation upon which we build our lives. So He has given us the Bible and within its pages, He reveals what is true and exposes what is not.
For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6, NIV)
“Truth” is God’s very nature and we must decide whether we will pursue it or continue to live in ignorance. (see Bible passages)
