Deciding to follow Jesus is often the most exciting time in a person’s life. It’s a time full of joy and peace. It can also be an overwhelming or even scary time as it may mean going against what was taught growing up or feeling vulnerable at the acknowledgement that life will never be the same.
One thing accepting Christianity should never be seen as, however, is the end.
Rather, Christianity is the beginning – the beginning of a grand new adventure.
That is to say, your walk with God shouldn’t end at an alter call or a prayer of acceptance. Accepting Jesus as your Savior means embarking on a journey that involves change and growth. You’re on your way to becoming a new person with a new life.
The word Christian means “little Christ” and as Christians we are called to a complete transformation. And the transformation doesn’t happen over night.
Here are a few Bible verses that describe what being a Christian entails:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
– 2 Corinthians 5:17You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
– Matthew 22:37Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
– Ephesians 4:22-24
Thankfully, we have God’s grace and mercy to help us along the way. We also have his joy, which surpasses understanding, and we have the community of believers to support us in love and prayer.
