Have you ever been given something or had someone do a favor for you and it felt like there were strings attached? Maybe they expected something in return? Or the gift was forced on you when you didn’t want it?
When it comes to God’s gift of salvation, there are no strings attached. His offer of salvation is available to us, but it is our choice whether or not to accept it. Revelation 3:20 uses the analogy of God standing at the door, knocking. God says, “if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” In other words, he doesn’t barge in or break the door down. He respects our free will to welcome him in.
This is an incredible thing. How sweet it is that God, while knowing what is best for us and desiring that we accept his incredible gift of redemption, still respects us. He wants us to come to him freely.
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” – 2 Corinthians 9:15
