The Holy Spirit’s Power to Overcome Evil
Faith, salvation, truth, the Spirit … we seldom think of these as protection–but that is exactly what they are!
Have you ever thought about the very real presence of “evil” in our world? Sometimes it’s hard to imagine … and other times it is not! The truth is that evil is in our world and does surround us. There are places in the world where it may be more or less pervasive, but Satan is working throughout the world, and in the lives of all believers. His ultimate goal is to persuade people to leave behind the relationship with God that defines them! A distorted, inaccurate view of God will result in a distorted, inaccurate response to Him.
Be assured that Satan will choose a precise weakness for his attack. If your marriage is not strong, that is the place where he will surely try to break through your lines of defense. If you struggle with honesty, he will throw a temptation at you that will compromise your ability to be truthful. If you struggle with your self-image, Satan will find a way for you to question God’s great love for you. A distorted, inaccurate view of God will result in a distorted, inaccurate response to Him!
Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. -Ephesians 6:10-17, NLT
What this passage is really telling us is that we need to be prepared!Faith, salvation, truth, the Spirit … we seldom think of these as protection–

God’s truth shows us the way things really are–and His truth is real truth! Each one of us must ground our lives on the truth of God’s Word so that misguided ideas will not get in the way of our Living for God.
