God is the Creator of all things visible and invisible. He is omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), and omnipresent (free from our time and space). He is holy, righteous, and just. That means God is morally pure and perfect.
He created physical laws that govern our universe so that our physical world will function the way it was designed. He also gave us rules for life to live by so that humanity may flourish and enjoy all that God has provided for us.
So, what are His rules for life? Let’s start with the Ten Commandments.
- You shall have no other gods before me.
- You shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water below [to worship].
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
- Remember the Sabbath day to set it apart as holy.
- Honor your father and your mother so that you may live a long time in the land the Lord your God is giving to you.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet.
Healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead, Jesus demonstrated that God is love and that God is absolutely good. The same Jesus taught: “You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
He also said, “You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment!”
Jesus makes the point that no one is morally perfect by God’s standards. Think about it.
