Proverbs on Parent-Child Relationships

Proverbs 3:11-12

My child, don’t ignore it when the Lord disciplines you, and don’t be discouraged when He corrects you. For the Lord corrects those He loves, just as the father corrects a child in whom he delights.

Proverbs 10:1

A wise child brings joy to a father; a foolish child brings grief to a mother.

Proverbs 10:5

A wise youth works hard all summer; a youth who sleeps away the hour of opportunity brings shame.

Proverbs 13:1

A wise child accepts a parent’s discipline; a young mocker refuses to listen.

Proverbs 13:24

If you refuse to discipline your children, it proves you don’t love them; if you love your children, you will be prompt to discipline them.

Proverbs 14:26

Those who fear the Lord are secure; He will be a place of refuge for their children.

Proverbs 15:20

Sensible children bring joy to their father; foolish children despise their mother.

Proverbs 17:6

Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.

Proverbs 17:21

It is painful to be the parent of a fool; there is no joy for the father of a rebel.

Discipline your children while there is hope. If you don’t, you will ruin their lives.

Children who mistreat their father or chase away their mother are a public disgrace and an embarrassment.

If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you have turned your back on knowledge.

Proverbs 20:20

 If you curse your father or mother, the lamp of your life will be snuffed out.

Proverbs 22:6

Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it.

Proverbs 22:15

A youngster’s heart is filled with foolishness, but discipline will drive it away.

Proverbs 23:13-14

Don’t fail to correct your children. They won’t die if you spank them. Physical discipline may well save them from death.

Proverbs 23:15-16

My child, how I will rejoice if you become wise. Yes, my heart will thrill when you speak what is right and just.

Proverbs 23:22-25

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother’s experience when she is old. Get the truth and don’t ever sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and discernment. The father of godly children has cause for joy. What a pleasure it is to have wise children. So give your parents joy! May she who gave you birth be happy.

 Proverbs 27:11

 My child, how happy I will be if you turn out to be wise! Then I will be able to answer my critics.

Proverbs 29:15

To discipline and reprimand a child produces wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child.

 Proverbs 29:17

Discipline your children, and they will give you happiness and peace of mind.

Proverbs 31:28a
