Why do we need to trust God when life is great? When we are not experiencing any need? It is natural during times of blessing to become forgetful of God and become self-absorbed. When everything is good, it is actually harder many times to stay focused on God rather than the blessings He has given us. Remember to keep trusting God for the following:
• Past successes and triumphs
When I was prosperous I said, ‘Nothing can stop me now!’ Your favor, O LORD, made me as secure as a mountain. Then you turned away from me, and I was shattered. (Psalm 30:6,7, NLT)
Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. (1 Chronicles 29:12, NIV)
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits–who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:2-5, NIV)
• Present endeavors and opportunities
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. (1 Timothy 6:17, NIV)
Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with men is possible with God.’ (Luke 18:27, NIV)
I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13, NIV)
• Future dreams and desires
Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. (James 4:13-16, NIV)
You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. (Psalm 145:16,19, NIV)
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4, NIV)
